Phalen Lake Elementary

Phalen Lake Elementary's rigorous Core Knowledge academic program is a school reform model described nationally as "gifted education for all". In March 2005, Phalen Lake was recognized as the first Official Core Knowledge School and Visitation Site in the Saint Paul metro area.

The Core Knowledge program offers multiple ways for students to learn by blending together history, geography, science, and the arts. A partnership with the East Side Arts Council provides guest artists to further enrich Core Knowledge topics.

Additional resources and tutors are provided by community partnerships including the Minnesota Humanities Center, 3M, University of Minnesota and Hill Murray H.S. Parents are valued as partners and serve in leadership roles at Phalen Lake.

The Hmong and Spanish/Latino Culture and Language classes allow students to learn cultural knowledge while fostering respect for their own and other cultures.
