Jackson Magnet School prepares students to be critical, creative, constructive and compassionate thinkers. The school's core belief is that children come first. The school demonstrates this by offering all children the opportunity for acceleration and enrichment to achieve their full potential.

Jackson's reading classes use Success for All, a proven curriculum that emphasizes small, achievement-based reading groups. Jackson's media center is the heart of the school and is visited daily by all children for reading and research purposes. Jackson encourages parent involvement and strives for a partnership between home, school and community. The school is able to nurture children as individuals and engage them in a learning process which emphasizes academic rigor and growth in a small, friendly, close-knit community.

New to Jackson in the 2006-07 school year was a bilingual Hmong program. Research supports teaching reading in a child's native language. Jackson will expand the Hmong bilingual program by adding a grade level each year, through grade three. Students in grades four through six will receive a smaller portion of Hmong literacy. In the 2007-08 school year Hmong bilingual classrooms were added in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grade.

Special Features:

  • Jackson is the first Saint Paul public school to offer intensive Hmong literacy and language instruction for children. Students in the Hmong Program become biliterate, bilingual and bicultural as they learn how to read, write and speak both Hmong and English. This program is for children in pre-kindergarten through third grade.
  • Bilingual Hmong and Spanish speaking teachers and staff are always available to help students and families.

  • The school also offers accelerated math classes.

  • The schoolwide geography curriculum is unique to our building.
