Ames Elementary is a neighborhood school on the East Side of Saint Paul, located at White Bear Avenue and Ames Place. In addition to its historical building, the grounds include a community garden and a pergola that is used as an environmental learning center. Ames reading, mathematics, science, music and art instruction programs prepare students, PEK through sixth grade, to be independent thinkers who live and contribute to a global society.

Students use a variety of technology tools to integrate learning in all subject areas. Ames has a new i-book mini portable computer lab and an e-Mac computer lab with twenty eight computers. Each teacher has a laptop for instruction and implementation of curriculum and a classroom computer station for student use. Ames is expanding the District Technology Integration Project to include kindergarten through sixth grade.

Special Features:

  • Three sections of full-day kindergarten and morning and afternoon PEK program.

  • Ames staff includes teaching specialists in art, vocal and instrumental music, Spanish and technology.

  • Ames staff focus on gifted and talented strategies and techniques for all students to maximize achievement. Lessons are structured with differentiation of curriculum to meet the various learning styles, interests and abilities of students.

  • Students are taught reading and writing using the Reader's and Writer's Workshop Models endorsed by the St. Paul Public Schools' Project for Academic Excellence (PAE).
