The American Indian Magnet School builds an active community of learners from all backgrounds, through a focus on core values including respect, gratitude, humility, cooperation and environmental responsibility.
Teachers work together to use the best educational methods to help each student achieve and perform at her/his highest possible level in the elementary core subjects (reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and technology).
A unique aspect of the school is the opportunity students have for in-depth study of the rich culture and history of American Indian nations. American Indian culture, values and history are blended into classroom learning through the use of quality literature in the school's Book of the Month Program. Cultural specialists at the school provide extended language and culture opportunities for students, staff and families. Special Features:
- The school's language program focuses on Ojibwe and Lakota.
- All students are given an opportunity to widen their interests and enhance their experiences through participation in enrichment opportunities: gifted services, enrichment clusters, differentiated instruction, culture scholars, student council, service learning, and after school activities.
- Community agencies partner with the school to expand student learning and provide extended services.
