The Fall of 2009 will mark a new beginning as we redefine ourselves as a Classical School. Born in ancient Greece and Rome, the Classic approach is seen by supporters as the best way to prepare students for future success in an increasingly complex and demanding world.
The rigors of the classical approach develops independent learning skills on the foundation of language, logic, and tangible fact. Longfellow staff value the importance of world knowledge and language acquisition. The Core Knowledge curriculum will be used to provide the foundation for students' mastery of facts and world history. At the correct developmental time, students will begin receiving Latin instruction.
Longfellow Elementary has a long tradition of faithfully serving the children of St. Paul's Merriam Park Neighborhood and beyond. Longfellow staff are a dedicated, knowledgeable and caring group of professionals. Our students will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to prosper and succeed wherever they set there dreams and ambitions. We see a future where our students are prepared to be tomorrow's leaders in a diverse and global world.
