The A+ Arts Program at Linwood and Monroe is a two campus K-8 Magnet school program with grades K-3 at the Linwood Campus and grades 4-8 at the Monroe Campus. We serve students from the Crocus Hill and Monroe neighborhoods, along with a diverse group of students across the district.

Our program is based on the A+ Model which features daily arts instruction in music, visual art, drama, or dance. Students learn effectively through the integration of arts along with other core curricular standards.  Students demonstrate their learning through the arts along with other traditional methods. When students learn concepts across subject areas (an interdisciplinary approach), it helps them find connections between subjects and provides opportunities for all students. The academic program is supported by the theory of Multiple Intelligences developed by Harvard professor Howard Gardner. This theory honors the intelligences of each student and promotes the use of many various teaching techniques to reach each individual child.

Instruction is based on the needs of each student. Teachers have been extensively trained in the use of research-based instructional practices to bring each student to standard in reading, writing and math. Teachers regularly meet in collaborative teams and professional learning communities. We use the philosophies of inclusion and collaboration to serve students in the best possible educational environment.

Students grow in their arts interests and performance skills through our choirs and arts ensembles. The school has all-day kindergarten, early childhood education, and a School Readiness program for 4-year-olds. We have a special education program recognized throughout the district as being high performing and will be expending its practice to include arts infusion. Special education students are served in an inclusive and collaborative environment based truly on the philosophy of providing all of our students a least restrictive environment.
