Jackson Magnet School prepares students to be critical, creative, constructive, and compassionate people. Our core belief is that children come first. We demonstrate this by offering all children the opportunity for acceleration and enrichment to achieve their full potential. All of the programs and opportunities offered at Jackson to students and their families prepare students for further success in secondary school, higher education, and life.
As of 2008, Jackson became a full participant in the Project for Academic Excellence by teaching reader's workshop in all classrooms. Jackson's media center is the heart of the school and is visited daily by all children for reading, research and technology uses. The school teaches Everyday Math, which includes targeted flexible groups to help students master skills, to support the development of the language of math, and to enrich and accelerate the curriculum.
Jackson encourages parent and family involvement, which starts by welcoming all parents and caregivers and listening to their needs. The school is able to nurture children as individuals and engage them in a learning process which emphasizes academic rigor and growth in a small, friendly, close-knit community.
Over the past several years, Jackson has developed strong partnerships with many community agencies and organizations. Each of these partners plays a role in our academic programming or after school enrichment programs, providing students with life-changing opportunities and experiences in the arts, academics, social and emotional support, deepening knowledge of cultural heritage or heritage language, and relationships with caring adults.
