Located on the East Side of Saint Paul, Eastern Heights Elementary's mission is: “We have high academic and social expectations for students, staff, and families. Together we will become lifelong learners and productive citizens." The academic program is based on the state's high standards and has a strong social focus.
Eastern Heights is a Responsive Classroom school, which means that students and teachers work to build a community within the classroom by focusing on both social and academic skills to improve student achievement in all areas. The school uses a Balanced Literacy approach where teachers are specially trained to use a variety of specific teaching methods to help all students learn reading and writing.
Eastern Heights has two federal grants to support students and families. The Early Reading First Grant provides full day instruction for 3/4 year old children with an emphasis on pre literacy skills. The Elementary School Counseling Grant provides a full-time school counselor to provide support to students for academic success. The major initiative is an anti-bullying program of Second Steps at (PreK-3) and Steps to Respect at (4-6).
