Ames Elementary, in the historic Eastside section of St Paul, provides a dynamic learning community for all students with an emphasis on multiple intelligences and an individualized approach to education. Students acquire higher order thinking skills, creativity, critical and problem-solving strategies.  Ames staff is committed to focus on high expectations to empower students to graduate from high school and become college bound. 

Ames students learn through the use of technology, cross-curricular strategies and differentiated instruction in a safe, enriching and collaborative learning environment. Ames certified teachers focus on gifted and talented learning strategies, techniques, and materials to facilitate learning. Additional enrichment opportunities are offered in technology integration of the new i-Book mini portable computer lab, visual arts, vocal and instrumental music and Spanish.

Students are taught reading and writing using the Reader's and Writer's Workshop Models endorsed by the St Paul Public Schools' Project for Academic Excellent (PAE) and Everyday Math and Macmillan/ McGraw-Hill reading series.

Special Features:

  • Ames offers two sections of full-day Kindergarten and A.M. and P.M. PEK sessions, and three days of Excel for 4-6th grades. 
     
  • Ames is expanding the District Technology Integration Project to include PEK through sixth grade.
     
  • Ames's unique historical building and location offers students a wealth of resources that only an urban educational opportunity can offer. Ames features a unique environmental learning center that includes a community garden with a pergola.
     
  • FRED (Families Reading Everyday), Student Council, full-time home/school liaison, four licensed school psychologists, retired teachers, literacy/math coach, literacy coordinator )Reading First Grant sustainability), multicultural (cultural competency) education, extended learning time, five days tutorial program, seven months of Saturday School, STARBASE (National Guard - science program 4th and 6th grades), and Eagle Bluff Environmental Program.
     
  • Other community/collaboration partners include Woodland Hills Church, Progressive Church, other faith-based organizations, IAM Resource, St. John/St Ben Colleges and other universities, National Everybody Wins Program/3M, Harding High School, 3M volunteers, Girl and Boy Scouts, the Mayor's Office Second Shift Initiative, No School Days Program/Hazel Park Recreation Center, City of St Paul, Mardag Foundation/Minneapolis/St Paul Links, Inc., EcoLab, District 2 Council, White Bear Realtor Association, Boys and Girls Club, Children Museum,  and community homemakers and business people volunteers.
