Battle Creek Middle School (BCMS) is a school of high academic, standards-based rigor that demands high performance and engagement from its students, challenging them with a quality instructional program delivered by dedicated faculty and staff.

Special Features:

  • Challenge-level classes prepare students for course work in regular and advanced high school programs, including Advanced Placement (AP) or College in the Schools.

  • The AVID program is designed to help students prepare for a college education and supports students with an elective class that teaches the Cornell Note Taking method, study skills and provides college students as tutors twice a week.

  • Attention to each student's personal and academic development is the cornerstone of the teaching and learning program at Battle Creek. Teachers model effective learning through Professional Learning Communities (PLC). The focus in the PLC is to increase student learning and achievement.

  • Students are organized into academic teams for the core areas of English, math, social studies and science. We follow the national middle school model organizationally and feature a daily advisory program.

  • BCMS is proud to offer single gender classes school-wide.

  • Students also have the option of studying world languages, computer technology, music, physical education, visual arts, and industrial arts as part of our many elective class options.

  • BCMS is the only middle school to offer American Indian Studies classes which include art and music, history and culture, Ojibwe, and Lakota.

  • Parents are informed of their child's progress through grade reports that are sent home every four weeks.

  • Parents are encouraged to join their student twice a year during conference time. We use the student-led conference model to involve the parent and student in showcasing successes and identifying areas of concern.

  • Panther awards are given monthly to highlight student achievement.

  • Our Panther Pride Program is a school-wide initiative to enhance student achievement and the school climate. Our goal is to help students achieve by teaching them to be more Punctual, Prepared, and Polite (the 3 P’s). Due to the success of our program we have presented and hosted many educators from other schools eager to learn from our success.

  • Battle Creek Middle School is actively involved in the district's wellness program. Students and staff are given several opportunities throughout the year to take classes in yoga and ppinning and join programs like "Take a Lap" and "Bike to School Day." There is also a mini-fitness area utilized by our Fitness for Life class as well as by staff members before and after school.

  • The Wilder Foundation has done staff and student surveys of our school and others in Saint Paul. The results of those surveys show our school scoring first in safety and student/staff satisfaction.
