Elementary Schools

  • Neighborhood Schools are available to students based on their home addresses.  Addresses are assigned to a school’s “attendance area.”  Use the elementary School Finder to determine your neighborhood school and magnet school options. Neighborhood schools offer a comprehensive elementary academic program.  To enroll your child in their attendance area school, families must fill out an Elementary Application. Students not currently enrolled (2008-2009) and entering grades 1-6 must schedule an intake appointment by calling the Student Placement Center.  For more information, call (651) 632-3760.

NEW THIS YEAR: Families applying to ANY elementary school (neighborhood or magnet/citywide) must fill out an Elementary Application; the elementary application deadline is March 6, 2009.

  • Magnet / Citywide Option Schools offer a particular program focus in addition to the basic subjects that all schools offer. Magnet/citywide option schools draw students from across the city and are part of the school  district’s voluntary desegregation efforts.  Transportation is usually provided to students who live more than a mile walking distance from the school.  Families must apply through an Elementary Application and the child must be accepted to a magnet or citywide option school before families can enroll their child.  The magnet/citywide option school application deadline is March 6, 2009.  Use the elementary School Finder to determine your options.  For more information, call (651) 632-3760.

  • Elementary Reassignment Schools are neighborhood schools.  If a household is assigned to a magnet school as its attendance area school, a student must apply to that school if he or she wants to attend.  If a family does not wish the child to attend that school, or the child is not accepted to the magnet or citywide option school of the family’s choice, the child is reassigned to a neighborhood school.  To find out your reassignment school options, call the Student Placement Center.  For more information, call (651) 632-3760.

  • Day Care Transfer is an option for families who want their child to attend a neighborhood school near their day care provider in Saint Paul rather than near their home. Parents who want their child to attend a magnet/citywide option school near their day care must apply to the school, but are not guaranteed a spot. Day care transfers are issued for neighborhood schools only.  In order to receive a day care transfer, space must be available and the transfer must comply with district and state policies. Day care transfers are valid only for the school year in which they are issued. Day care transfers are not guaranteed, and there is a possibility that transportation will not be provided by the school district.  For more information, call (651) 632-3760.

  • Elementary Transfer is approved for elementary students who would like to attend a neighborhood school outside of their attendance area, as long as there is space available and the transfer complies with school district and  state policies.  Transportation is usually not provided.  For more information, call (651) 632-3760.
