Community Education Programs and Services

Community Education programs
can benefit the entire city of Saint Paul. They are educational, recreational, cultural and leisure activities offered throughout the city for people of all ages. Programs are offered at several sites throughout the district, often in collaboration with organizations or business partners. Also available are driver’s education, aquatics and senior citizen programs as well as trips and tours. A Community Education catalog of classes is sent to all Saint Paul homes three times a year or is available by calling (651) 767-8179.

Adult Learning Classes can help adults learn English, prepare for work, get a General Educational Development (GED) diploma or prepare for post-secondary education. Classes are available at several schools, community sites, and businesses, as well as the Ronald M. Hubbs Center for Lifelong Learning. For more information, call the Hubbs Center at (651) 290-4822.

Adults with Disabilities Programs include Supportive Experiential Learning (SEED) classes that provide an opportunity for adults who have experienced mental illness to develop intellectual, creative, social and practical skills. Community Leisure Education and Recreation (CLEAR) classes address the needs of adults with physical and cognitive disabilities and include independent living skills, expressive arts, adult basic education and recreation and physical education. Classes consist of small sizes and caring instructors. The SEED programs take place at several sites including the Riverside Learning Center at 900 Albion St. in Saint Paul. For more information, call (651) 228-3655.

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) provides quality classes and family activities that support parents as their children’s first and most important teachers. ECFE classes are held mornings, afternoons and evenings in neighborhoods throughout Saint Paul and transportation may be provided. During an ECFE class, parents and children learn together with emphasis on language, reading and math skills. During parents’ time, licensed educators lead parents through discussions intended to increase parenting skills, while children are involved in age appropriate activities with an early childhood teacher. Saint Paul ECFE also provides language specific weekly classes for our non-English speaking population. For more information, visit the EFCE web site or call:
